It's All About Unity

by Ken Shirkey, Director of GCWM

The testimonies of the Lord’s faithfulness you have been reading about show what can happen when God’s people partner together to do more than each could do alone.  When God’s people dwell together in unity, the Lord commands a blessing. –Ps 133: 1,3  Unity in itself, however, is not an end goal, but it is an essential element in our obtaining the full inheritance.

I am reminded of the people of Israel entering into the land promised to Abraham.  The promised land had been usurped by demonic forces, and they would have to be dispossessed before God’s people would be able to rest and prosper.  The tribes of Ruben, Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh liked the rich pastures on the east side of the Jordan, but they couldn’t possess their land unless they fought with the other tribes to gain their inheritance as well.  As they were crossing, the Lord told Joshua to have the key leader of each tribe pick a stone from the middle of the river to make a monument of remembrance of the Lord’s deliverance for future generations.

Each tribe had special gifts, and I can imagine the stones in the monument were different. Future generations might be able to look at the pile and say, “That is my family’s stone. We were part of it.”  It would also be a reminder that no family was left out.

God’s purpose is that His whole family be united with Him and fully reflect Him in the earth.  He will not rest until all the families of the earth are free from the demonic bondage that separates them from the Father.  Jesus came to secure our inheritance by living the life we couldn’t live, dying on the cross to purchase it, and rising from the dead to open the way for all of us to enter in.

The Lord reminded me of this fact while I was teaching pastors and leaders in Haiti who were representing many denominations and traditions.  All had been working to bring people to Christ in their own families but none would receive their full inheritance until they all worked together to dispossess the enemy from the nation. Each one had particular gifts with which to fight the enemy, but together the full release of the Holy Spirit would be manifest.

The Gateway team primarily focused on equipping leaders, and the medical teams gave access to unreached people and ministered to their needs. We didn’t have medical skills but the medical team’s testimony was that the medical clinics were hindered until the Gateway team came to intercede against the dark forces against them.  The Gateway team would not have access to these leaders without the ministry of the medical team. Both had to fight together to dispossess the enemy and bring souls into God’s family who had never heard of the name of Jesus.

One day Christ will come and take title deed to the earth, but he will come with his body fully functioning.

But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. Eph. 4:15-16-NASB

All of this would have been impossible without your prayers, giving and resources.  You are part of the team that is bringing the Word of God to Nepal—bringing Christ’s coming near.
