“Ask me to give you the nations and I will do it, and they shall become your legacy.
Your domain will stretch to the ends of the earth.” -The Passion Translation
I went to a small church-based seminary and was required to complete a short-term mission trip to fulfill my graduation requirements. One of my mentors had a mission agency teaching and ministering in China, India, and Nepal so I chose to go with him.
Fear rose up in me as I prepared to go. It was an overwhelming fear of failure and rejection. I needed to raise $1500 USD and I had to ask people to donate. I had never done that before. All the people I knew didn’t have a lot of money.
I went to my mission advisor with my concerns. My mission advisor was wise and experienced. He confronted me with some questions. “Ken,” he said, “Do you know for a fact that the Lord has called you to do this trip?”
“Yes,” I replied. “I know without a doubt that he has called me to do this, but I have no idea about how to raise the funds.”
“If you can’t trust God for $1500 to carry out something he has confirmed you to do, how can you trust Him for your salvation?” he asked.
That question was like a harpoon that went right through my fear and pride and into my heart. As scary as it seemed, I knew I had to follow God and just do what I knew to do and trust him to do what seemed impossible.
God is ever faithful and the full amount I needed was raised.
Now I had to step into the mission trip.
